Bernard Tobin previously held several senior positions at Amgen, including Executive Director of National Accounts, General Manager of both the Netherlands and Brazil, and Global Head of Commercial Excellence. In addition, he led the global integration of a business development acquisition in more than 100 countries. Prior to that, Mr. Tobin held a variety of leadership roles in the commercial organization at Eli Lilly and Co. He received his B.S. degree in public service and administration from Iowa State University and his M.B.A. from the Fuqua School of Business, Duke University.
Elena Hitraya, M.D., Ph.D.Chief Medical Officer
Dr. Hitraya joined Crescendo in 2015. She comes to the Company with more than 25 years of experience in rheumatology and immunology, and has published extensively. Over the past 11 years, Dr. Hitraya has held several leadership positions at Genentech, including most recently as group medical director of rheumatology/immunology for the Genentech/Roche group. Prior to Genentech, she was regional director of medical affairs for immunology at Centocor, a division of Johnson & Johnson. Dr. Hitraya received her medical degree from Semmelweis Medical University, Budapest, Hungary and her doctoral degree in clinical rheumatology from the Institute of Rheumatology of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences, Moscow, Russia. She completed a postdoctoral fellowship in molecular biology at the Division of Rheumatology at Thomas Jefferson University, Philadelphia, PA.
Alex BangsChief Information Officer
Mr. Bangs is responsible for software engineering and information technology at Crescendo Bioscience. He has worked in life sciences for over 20 years and has over 25 years of experience in the development and integration of end-user, database, analytical, and embedded systems applications. Prior to joining Crescendo Bioscience, Mr. Bangs was Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer at Entelos where he led the development of technology for virtual patient simulations and is an inventor on several related patents. He has held technical and management positions at Strategic Decisions Group, Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Honeybee Robotics, and the Institute for Defense Analyses. He received an AB in computer science and engineering sciences from Harvard College and an MS in computer science from the University of Tennessee.
David Chernoff, MDSenior Vice President, Medical Affairs
Dr. Chernoff has served as acting Chief Medical Officer for several start-up molecular diagnostic companies including XDx, CardioDx, and Tethys Bioscience. Previously, he was Vice President of Corporate Technology at Elan Pharmaceuticals and Medical Director of Chiron Diagnostics, where he played a pivotal role in the development of assays for HIV, HCV, HBV, and CMV. He recently spent two years as an Entrepreneur-in-Residence and one year as an Operating Partner at the venture firm TPG. Dr. Chernoff holds an MD from New York University and completed his medical training in internal medicine, rheumatology, and infectious disease at the University of California, San Francisco.
Eric Sasso, MDVice President, Medical and Scientific Affairs
Dr. Sasso joined Crescendo Bioscience in September 2012. He came to Crescendo from Abbott Laboratories, where as Medical Director, he worked in Early Immunology clinical development and in Humira Medical Affairs, both in Rheumatology and as head of the global Dermatology team. Prior to joining Abbott, he was an Associate Professor at the University of Washington, Seattle, where he is currently an Affiliate Professor. Dr. Sasso earned an A.B. Biochemistry degree at Harvard University, Cambridge, MA, and an M.D. degree from the University of California, San Diego. He trained in internal medicine at McGill University, Montreal, rheumatology at the University of Washington and immunology research at the Virginia Mason Research Center, Seattle. He is board certified in Internal Medicine and Rheumatology and has published extensively in the fields of rheumatology, immunology and dermatology.
Erik HarrisVice President, Commercial
Mr. Harris brings nearly 15 years of experience building and leading commercial teams within the healthcare industry. Prior to joining Crescendo Bioscience, Mr. Harris served as Vice President of Marketing at InterMune and Senior Director of Marketing and Sales at Élan. Previously, he worked in numerous senior marketing and sales management positions at Genentech and Bristol-Myers Squibb. Mr. Harris’ professional career started on active duty in the U.S. Navy as a Mission Commander of the Navy’s primary maritime patrol and reconnaissance aircraft and later as a Congressional Fellow and Intern for the Secretary of Defense. Mr. Harris earned his BS in Mathematics from the United States Naval Academy and a MBA from The Wharton Business School at the University of Pennsylvania.
William C. Manning, Jr., Ph.D.Vice President, Lab Operations
Dr. Manning joined Crescendo Bioscience in February 2009 and was involved in the development and analytical validation of Vectra DA. He is currently responsible for operations in the commercial clinical lab, the research and development lab, and manufacturing. He came to Crescendo from Genentech, where for 5 years he was Associate Director, Biomarkers in early clinical development for immunology and oncology. Prior to joining Genentech in 2004, he was Associate Director of Translational Medicine at Sugen, Inc. Before Sugen, Dr. Manning spent 7 years at Chiron Corporation working in gene therapy and vaccine research. Dr. Manning earned a B.S. in Genetics at Purdue University and a Ph.D. in Molecular Virology at Stanford University.
Nelson LamVice President, Regulatory Affairs and Quality Assurance
Mr. Lam brings over 22 years of Quality Assurance and Regulatory Affairs experience supporting medical and in-vitro diagnostic device companies. Prior to joining Crescendo, he served as the Vice President of Regulatory/Quality/Clinicals at Intuity Medical, a developer of home-use blood glucose monitoring systems. Previously, Mr. Lam held Regulatory/Quality executive and management positions with a number of early-stage and established companies including CoolSystems, TheraSense, Abbott Diabetes Care and Stryker Corporation. Most notably, at TheraSense, he established a Regulatory/Quality team and gained timely regulatory approvals to support successful commercialization of the company’s first IVD product line. Mr. Lam earned his BS in Electrical Engineering from New Jersey Institute of Technology.
